Tony Fragar..... studied Architecture – graduating with 1st class honours. In particular he was awarded straight High Distinctions (over six years) in Graphic Communications. He combined this with the study of the History of Fine Arts. It was during this time that he concluded that both the Romantics & Impressionists accomplished an irrefutable high-point in the evolution of the rendering of the human response to our world.
Whilst abstract art may achieve an emotional response in the viewer, it is only with representational depictions of our subjects that we evoke & relish (in any degree of detail) our heart-felt experiences.
Many graphic techniques will naturally be employed to exaggerate a scene. The result is that the painted image conveys more than the mere view. It communicates our exhilaration when we are startled by our impassioned response to the beauty of what we see. We may take photographs to record visual highlights but they are limited by the scope of the camera. They can never do justice to those moments of expansive perception - when we surprisingly and momentarily catch our breath at our sensing of the scale of life’s theatre. This is what I strive to capture.
