Kerry Evans Studio 21
The colours, textures and patterns of the natural environment are the inspiration for my art –
as well as giving me so much joy in my life! We live in an incredibly beautiful world, and I enjoy the challenge of sharing my love of nature with others, through my art.
In my work, natural forms are abstracted and expressed by layering, cutting and scraping into my thick, palette-knife applied oil paint – I often use timber board as the painting base to help facilitate this process.
I also enjoy working with encaustic (beeswax & oil paint). This medium allows me to express the essence of the landscape using similar techniques to my painting style – though with the added dimension of beautiful translucency and depth in the material.
Large scale life drawing using mainly charcoal is another passion of mine. I love drawing the body by simplifying and defining the energy of the human form with strong, minimal line-work.
I am also currently enjoying the challenge of attempting to capture the intensity of human emotions on canvas. The strong feelings and passions of our inner life fascinate me, and I’m relishing trying to express and convey the complexity and richness of our inner psychological life with my art making.
Kerry Evans has lived in Bundeena for the past 15 years (until recently, dividing her time between the city and this patch of coastal paradise surrounded by the Royal National Park).
Kerry originally worked in Medical Genetics – before retraining as an Interior Designer, then later moving into teaching perspective drawing & rendering to design students at Enmore Tafe.
Now that her family have grown and are independent, Kerry has decided to concentrate on pursuing her own artistic development (basing herself more permanently at Bundeena).
She has been part of numerous group exhibitions over the past 10 years – including several ‘Art of Living Festival’ shows in Bundeena, as well as a shared exhibition in Newtown with her Graphic Designer daughter Jordan.
Kerry is, from January 2019, a keen new member of the Bundeena Art Trail – where her studio is open to the public on the 1st Sunday of every month.
