Sonja Karl Studio 14
Sonja is a contemporary multi- disciplinary artist based in Sydney, Australia.
She completed a BA in Fine Arts in 1996 and has been engaged in Artist in Residency programs and numerous community arts projects.
Sonja is currently working in the arts sector as a tutor while maintaining her professional arts practice.
In 2010 she was awarded the Local Government Cultural Award with the ‘Movement in Space Art Project’ and in 2011 was part of a group exhibition in Parliament House, Sydney.
Orange Regional Art Gallery showcased her works on paper in 2013 and her most recent exhibition is a group collective Bimblebox 153 Birds at Impress Printmakers Studio and Gallery Woolowin and Brisbane Writers Festival.
Her work has been included in the Albury Art Prize, Works on Paper Exhibition, Salon De Refuse, Tap Gallery, Darlinghurst, Sydney, Hazlehurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre, Sydney and Brunswick Street Gallery, Melbourne.
Her work is represented in public and private collections in Australia.
Sonja works in the areas of installation, sculpture, painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, encaustic and ephemeral art using a varied selection of materials and mediums.
Her practice focuses on the elements of nature and the environment as a catalyst to exploring our interconnectedness with nature and the impacts these have on our internal landscape and on our social conscience.
