Marion Stehouwer Studio 10
After her first introduction to clay some years ago at University, Marion Stehouwer has spent the last 10 years completely immersed in this challenging medium.
Not content with production style pottery, her studio is filled with unusual one of a kind creations.
Not shy to mix other materials in with her work, her style is contemporary and continually changing as she explores different ideas and concepts.
The “In the Rough” series utilized uncut sapphires collected on a fossicking trip to Glenn Innes and in combination with man made ball bearings and
crackle glaze are as beautiful as they are unusual.
Inspired by her stunning surroundings, Marion’s most current work is exploring motion in nature; the movement of trees, waves, clouds etc, with the play of light reflected in her pieces through carving and glaze layering.
On the purely functional side Marion also produces a unique line of cookware that is highly sought after, each hand painted or carved, the design rarely replicated. Marion’s tagines have traveled the world and were commented on by celebrity Chef Kurma on his website,
“Marion is a potter…..all of the bowls and gorgeous tagines in which we prepared and served dinner were made by her”.
Cooking for Marion is a complete sensory experience and as with all things in her life her philosophy is that it should be fun and this too is reflected in her work. When you view her gallery expect some humor, and certainly not the ordinary.
Marion’s studio, “Something at Mary’s” is also home to 4 wheels where she conducts small group and individual tuition. Larger groups are accommodated for team building and creativity sessions that engage and inspire.
Sculptural workshops are also conducted by Marion in the beautiful Camellia Gardens in Caringbah throughout the year.
Commissions include; Forbo for their DesignEx exhibition in Melbourne, Casey Brown Architecture, The City of Sydney for the Lord Mayors New Years Celebration, and private collections in and outside of Australia.
“Something at Mary’s” is open every weekend or by appointment
