| Renata de Lambert studied pottery at East Sydney Technical College and furthered her studies at Phyllis Shillito Design in the late sixties. She has since undertaken various workshops and worked for a short period of time with Michael Cardew in Cornwall, England. In 1976 she was invited to run Master Potter Anne Mentzel-Marx' workshop and gallery in Wangen, Germany. During the seventies and eighties, Renata undertook solo exhibitions at different galleries in both Sydney and Canberra, including Craft Theme Gallery, Beaver Gallery and Narek Gallery in Canberra, and Potters Gallery in Sydney. She has also taken part in numerous group exhibitions and has received prizes for her work at the Royal Easter Show on an almost annual basis since 1966. Renata was chosen as one of 50 potters in over 20 countries to be included in an exhibition and in the international publication Ceramics Art and Perception for her Millennium platter 'Marriages are Made in Heaven'. Renata works predominantly in stoneware. She fires her large stoneware kiln to 13000 Celsius in a reduced atmosphere. Her work is both functional and decorative, mostly thrown with occasional handbuilt pieces added. Her decorations are influenced by the surrounding landscapes and ocean where she lives. In her travels to many countries she has been fascinated by the ceramics of Mexico, South America, Kenya and Tanzania. Influences of indigenous styles can also be observed in decorations on some of her work. Renata teaches two days per week at the Workshop Arts Centre at Willoughby. She fires Raku and Pitpots with her students at her home in Maianbar, Royal National Park, in which her own work of birds, people and animals is included. Renata is a member of the Maianbar Art Trail. Her pottery is represented in several public Art Galleries in NSW and Queensland, and in private collections in Australia, New Zealand, England, Japan, USA and the Philippines. |
