| Lee Bethel studied
Visual Arts at Sydney College of the Arts in the ear
ly 80’s and has
since worked in the arts sector as a teacher and mentor as well as a
professional practising artist. Lee’s work is held in regional galleries and in both public and private collections in Australia and overseas. Her work has hung in the Sullman Prize, Art on the Rocks, Poimema, Prometheus, Banyule, Hazelhurst Art on Paper and in 2006 she was awarded a UNESCO Laurette which allowed her to work and show in France. Lee has participated in many solo and group shows, her most recent at Stella Downer Fine Art in Waterloo. The concepts of Lee’s work draws on ‘a passion for cloth’ and its relation to the energy of the grid. In both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional forms she weaves and manipulates paper echoing inherent domestic skills. Flooding and painting the constructions with wax encaustic the works develop unique personalities. Her recent work examines colour and light reflection within the grid’s format. Lee is a recent resident of Bundeena and says she has always wanted to live in this unique and beautiful area. ‘I have a wonderful studio in a very particular environment, I’m sure this is reflected in my work.’ |
