Fiona Grabrovaz's explorations in
art reflect her study and adventures in life. Born in Melbourne
her family moved to Africa and then England where she was formally
trained (B.A. Hons.) in Three Dimensional Design at West Surrey College
of Art and Design. Travels to Europe, Iceland and China continued
during her Degree studies and exhibitions of Ceramics and Sculptural
Knitting in London, Hampshire and Surrey followed - as did the birth of
five children. On her return to Australia in 1990 with her young family, Fiona started in new directions, including painting. Exhibitions in Surry Hills, Randwick and Bundeena in Sydney have confirmed the move and she has now broadened her scope to work professionally as a Trompe l'oeil and Faux Finishes Artist as well as pursuing her personal work. Further studies at Wollongong, together with an intense involvement in family, SCUBA diving and the artist community in Bundeena provide constant inspiration for her individual vision of form and colour. "My work has always been spontaneous and based on instinct. I tend to have a vision in my head and then work very quickly to try and translate my thoughts into two and three dimensions, sometimes producing something quite removed from the original idea but which "feels" right. My children are normally represented somewhere in my paintings, albeit obscurely, and fish, large and small will often appear at a whim. However, it is the female figure that is the most consistent subject and she is normally me with as much emphasis on lusciousness as I can pack in." |
